Background Story
Our story unfolds with two individuals, each driven by a deep sense of compassion to uplift the underprivileged segments of society, albeit in separate corners of the world, initially unaware of each other's endeavors. In the year 2000, Ms. Vaishali Mackar was moved by the plight of impoverished communities and resolved to provide them with essential sustenance. With unwavering support from her family, she embarked on her mission, founding Project Annapurna. Targeting 70 families facing dire circumstances due to age or illness, she ensured they received monthly provisions of dry rations, a commitment that continues to this day.
Meanwhile, Ajay Chathli, an HR manager at a prestigious Indian firm, made a life-altering decision in 2017, forsaking his corporate career to serve the less fortunate. Inspired by the philanthropic efforts of Mr. Anup Khanna, he initiated daily food distributions from the Arya Samaj Mayur Vihar 1 kitchen, providing nourishment to nearly 300 individuals. Prepared with care in a hygienic environment using traditional ingredients like desi ghee, each meal costs a nominal Rs. 5 to promote dignity and minimize waste. Supported by his sister and wife, Ajay's dedication remained steadfast, even amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic.
As global events unfolded, necessitating innovative responses, Ajay pivoted his efforts towards assisting those affected by the pandemic-induced economic downturn. Rallying the community's support, funds were raised to distribute dry ration kits to vulnerable families in and around Mayur Vihar Phase 1. Recognizing the digital divide hindering education, efforts were also made to provide electronic devices to 100 students identified by local school principals, ensuring continued access to online classes.
Simultaneously, Vaishali forged ahead with her initiatives, empowering senior citizens and marginalized women through self-help groups aimed at fostering employment opportunities and financial independence. By providing them with raw materials and facilitating skill development in activities such as diya painting for Diwali, Rakhi making for Raksha Bandhan, and crafting natural Holi colors from flowers, she enabled these individuals to generate income. Additionally, a knitting group was established in Mussoorie to produce sweaters for sale, with proceeds reinvested into sustaining ongoing projects. In a serendipitous turn of events, Ajay and Vaishali crossed paths in 2022, united by their shared commitment to social welfare. Recognizing the synergies between their endeavors, they joined forces to establish Aarushi Seva Sansthan, pooling their resources and expertise to broaden their impact. Presently, the organization is engaged in five key projects, made possible through the generosity of donors and the divine blessings bestowed upon their noble cause.
